There’s a point every fall when La Quinta starts to feel like La Quinta again!
September can still be pretty hot, but as we get deeper into October and especially into November, temperatures begin to drop, mornings get cooler, patios start filling back up, and spending the entire day outside suddenly sounds like a really good idea.
For my family and me, that’s one of the things we enjoy most about owning a home here. Fall feels like the beginning of something — golf season picks back up, Old Town gets busier, events return, and the whole desert starts coming back to life.
So rather than give you another giant calendar of everything happening around the Coachella Valley, here are a few of the fall events and experiences I’m personally most looking forward to this year — and why.
The Return of Great Golf Weather
When: Late October through November — and beyond
Okay, technically this isn't an “event.”
But if you spend any amount of time in La Quinta, you know why it belongs on the list.
Golf season is back.
La Quinta is home to some incredible golf, including PGA West, SilverRock and numerous private and resort courses. Once the summer heat starts giving way to cooler fall temperatures, being outside for 18 holes becomes a whole lot more enjoyable.
Our vacation home is within PGA West, so golf is a big part of our experience in La Quinta. There's just something about an early tee time, the Santa Rosa Mountains in the background, and spending a few hours outside when the desert weather is cooperating.
And by November, the weather can be about as good as it gets.
Even if golf isn't your thing, this is when outdoor life in La Quinta really starts hitting its stride again — hiking, biking, pool time, Old Town, or simply sitting outside with a cup of coffee in the morning.
After the summer heat, I'm ready for it.
Head Trip at the Empire Polo Club
When: October 10–11, 2026
Here's something brand new for the desert this fall.
Head Trip is a two-day electronic music festival coming to the Empire Polo Club in nearby Indio — the same grounds that host Coachella and Stagecoach.
And the lineup is pretty impressive: Calvin Harris, Swedish House Mafia, Skrillex, FISHER, Chris Lake, Peggy Gou, Four Tet and Dom Dolla are among the artists scheduled to perform.
What makes this one interesting to me is seeing that huge festival atmosphere return to the desert outside of the traditional spring festival season.
The Coachella Valley obviously knows how to host a music festival, and bringing an event like this to the polo grounds in October gives visitors a completely different reason to head to the desert in the fall.
Whether I make it inside the festival or simply enjoy the energy it brings to the valley, I'm interested to see what this first year looks like.
Something tells me the desert won't be very quiet that weekend.
Fall Horse Shows at Desert International Horse Park
When: National Sunshine Series I — October 28–November 1, 2026
National Sunshine Series II — November 4–8, 2026
This is another side of the desert that people who don't spend much time here might not know about.
The Desert International Horse Park hosts top-level hunter/jumper and dressage competition from October through April each year, bringing riders, families and spectators from around the country to the Coachella Valley.
And we actually have a personal connection to these events.
Over the years, we've hosted families at our PGA West vacation home who have come specifically for competitions at the Horse Park. It's given us a firsthand look at just how much the equestrian season brings to the area.
Golf gets a lot of attention here. Coachella and Stagecoach certainly get plenty. But there's also an entire equestrian community that returns to the desert each season for some seriously impressive competition.
It's another unique part of the fall and winter season that I'm looking forward to seeing return.
The Old Town La Quinta Certified Farmers Market
When: Sundays, October through May | 8 AM–1 PM
This one has already become a favorite for our family.
The Certified Farmers Market returns to Old Town La Quinta every Sunday during the season, with local farmers, artisans, food vendors and small businesses setting up along Main Street.
We've visited the Farmers Market as a family on several occasions, and it never disappoints.
There's fresh produce, flowers, baked goods and artisan foods, but honestly, that's only part of why I enjoy it.
It's the atmosphere.
Grab a coffee, walk through the market, wander around Old Town, maybe stop somewhere for breakfast or lunch afterward...
It's just a really good Sunday morning.
Once the weather cools down, Old Town La Quinta is one of my favorite places to spend a few hours.
IRONMAN 70.3 La Quinta
When: December 6, 2026
Technically we're starting to push beyond fall here, but I'm including this one anyway.
The IRONMAN 70.3 La Quinta returns on December 6, bringing athletes to the Coachella Valley for a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride and 13.1-mile run.
And much like the Kodiak Ultra event I mentioned in my Big Bear fall guide, I'm perfectly comfortable admitting that I'd rather cheer these athletes on than join them.
I'll be on the sidelines.
But I love seeing events like this come to La Quinta. There's a noticeable energy around town when athletes, families, volunteers and spectators descend on the area, and the race showcases another side of the desert beyond golf courses, resorts and swimming pools.
I'll happily enjoy this particular one as a spectator.
Honestly, Fall Itself Might Be My Favorite “Event”
Fall in La Quinta isn't about watching the leaves change or pulling out the winter coat.
It's about getting the outdoors back.
As the summer heat fades, mornings become more comfortable. Restaurants fill their patios again. Golf gets better. Hiking becomes an option. Old Town gets busier. Seasonal events return.
The desert just feels different.
And that's a big part of why my family and I enjoy owning a home here.
Every season has its own personality, but late fall through spring is when La Quinta really shines.
There's something pretty great about waking up to blue skies, looking toward the mountains and knowing you can spend the entire day outside.
Planning a Fall Trip to La Quinta?
If you're thinking about coming out for Head Trip, golf, the Farmers Market, the horse shows, IRONMAN — or you simply want a few days of sunshine and desert weather — my family and I also own Desert Gem Stays, our vacation home within PGA West.
When we're not enjoying it ourselves, we make it available to guests visiting La Quinta. Over the years, we've hosted everyone from families enjoying a desert getaway to guests attending some of the area's major events and equestrian competitions.
You can check availability and book directly at Desert Gem Stays.
It's become one of our favorite places to spend time as a family, especially once the desert starts cooling down for the season.
Maybe I’ll See You Out There
One of my goals with this blog isn't just to talk about real estate.
I want to share some of the places, events and experiences that make the communities I know and spend time in worth experiencing.
La Quinta is definitely one of them.
So if you're walking through the Farmers Market one Sunday morning, heading out for a round at PGA West, attending one of the horse shows — or simply enjoying a cool evening in Old Town — maybe I'll see you out there.
And if you've got a favorite La Quinta fall tradition or event that I missed, I'd genuinely love to hear about it.
